This exercise was very interesting to see how people conform even though they know that the answer was wrong. I personally believe that we all have a social responsibility to 1) stand up for what we believe in and not to conform to outside influences, and 2) understand how our realm of influence can impact others. An obligation of being socially responsible reaches many levels and its influence can span from home life to work to social gatherings. A well thought out position can have great affects, positive or negative, depending on the intentions of the one delivering the message. Being controversial for the sake of being controversial is irresponsible to say the least. Social responsibility affects everyone because each individual must stop and reflect for a moment about their daily interactions with one another, and how their social behavior affects those within their realm.

Influence like that can only happen if we believe that not fitting it means no one likes us and if we are not strong enough in our own mind to speak what we believe to be our truth.

I am often called aloof or distant because if the crowd says lets go left and I want to go right I will go right. Even if it means being alone.

Not being "part of the gang" or being different is what keeps people comforming. We don't embrace individuality and its a shame. Instead we preach that we must all be the same to fit in, we must all do what pleases the majority and that is just a real shame!

Its interesting in this manor ... It all has to do with mental models in our head of how the world works, the weaker the models in our mind the weaker our conviction of right and wrong. I believe peoples truth are determined by what influences them so at a early age if you have the wrong influence (which you probly wont recgonize as being wrong anyway) you are being but at a huge disadvantage right from the beg. Its similar to the young couple who just graduated from college going out to buy 2 new cars and a home, what they are effectivily doing is FORCING themselfs to continue to work as a employee to pay of there debts. You start of in the hole, because you dont have the mental model of how the decisions you are making will impact you in the future. Income into assets then assets back into passive income would be a more appropiate mental model for wealth, in this case.

Early in my adult life I made a decision to be a woman of influence. I came to terms with the thought that there would be sometimes that I would have to swim up stream or go against the grain of what everyone else was saying and doing. I've discovered that often situations and decisions are very complex and require really digging in before I throw my influence on one side or another. The best way I know how to be prepared is to have a grounding in my core values and beliefs, to already have a framework of what is the immutable truth - yes there is an immutable truth. Upon this I have a guidance system for evaluating and remaining true to my values & beliefs; being willing to stand alone or influence others.
