Martin Luther King Jr. once said,“Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter.”
In America we enjoy the inalienable rights of our citizenship which include life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. Our freedoms as Americans are the envy of people around the world. Therefore, it probably comes as no surprise to you that some people want to make America their home regardless of our current economic climate.
You might be thinking, “So what Ron! Tell me something I don’t know!”
Fair enough.
Admittedly, I don’t know if this will matter to you or not – but I appreciate your willingness to read about it.
A few weeks ago, I learned about some people who need others to speak on their behalf. Who are they? The innocent refugee and immigrant children being helped by the U.S. Committee for Refugees and Immigrants.
You see, over 7,000 unaccompanied immigrant children arrive in our country on a yearly basis. They seek refuge from domestic abuse, gang violence, human trafficking, or poverty. Some come to America to reconnect with friends and family. But they all must battle for their right to remain here. Unfortunately, most of them end up going through immigration proceedings without legal representation.
However, the U.S. Committee for Refugees and Immigrants (USCRI) has a organization dedicated to providing pro bono legal and social services for unaccompanied immigrant children as they navigate the U.S. Immigration Courts. The name of that organization is National Center for Refugee and Immigrant Children. If you want to find out how to help them, help these children, please take time to visit the U.S. Committee for Refugees and Immigrants website at http://www.nationalchildrenscenter.org.
Thank you very much!
Warmly,
Ron
